Religion vs. Science

So the battle in me continues.

Ever since Science became my specialization, I came to realize that all things are only factual when proved scientifically. I came to realize that all living beings are made up of cells and that living things possess traits that would let us know that they really are living organisms. I've been more mature with my thoughts and I practically do not believe in all superstitions anymore. They're not scientifically proven. For example, they say that one must not pass by a street when he came across with a black cat. It's bad luck they say. But, I say, what's the connection between the two? Is it scientifically proven? Yeah. I'm like that on various things already. Sometimes, I'm already annoyed to myself because of that.

I'm also a devout Catholic. I believe in God, the Father Almighty. I believe in Jesus Christ and all His teachings. I was brought up going to Church on Sundays, believing all which is to be believed, following the commandments of the Church, and siding with the Church always. I celebrate all the Catholic Holidays like Easter Sunday, Christmas Day, and Lent. I read the Bible and try to apply as much as possible all the things I've read. I sin, and I'm sorry for them. I receive Christ's body in the form of the bread every Sunday. I participate in Church activities such as procession and rosaries. I love God with all my heart and soul. I haven't seen Him yet, but, someday, I will.

Now the problem is, what if two of these beliefs of mine collide? Would they clash at each other? Or would they merge into one? I do not know what would happen. Sometimes, things come to my mind, like what if religion is to be scientifically proven? How will it be like? I would instantly erase that from my mind and think of something else. Reality speaking, I don't want to ever think about it.

I know the Creation of the World found in Genesis is only a theory. The Bible says it so. I do not know the stand of the Church regarding this, but personally, I have doubts regarding its reality. The evolution is also a theory which is very heavy and very close to fact due to its many studies and findings. I personally believe in the theory on evolution. Does this belief let me be excommunicated? I do not know. I've read that the Church's stand on Evolution is not quite clear yet because as I've read, two of them are two different aspects.

Also, if God created the moon, the stars and the sun in one day, how would Faith explain the existence universe and its components (the nebula, the other planets, other galaxies)? It would be so selfish to say that we are the only living beings in the universe.

How would Science explain the many apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I personally believe in the many apparitions of Mary. It's very extraordinary and one of the many reasons why I became Catholic. Science would be so hard up explaining about it.

There are so many things still bugging my mind regarding the two aspects of my life. I don't meddle with them as much as possible and continue with my life as it is. I will continue believing that God created everything though I know for a fact that Evolution existed. What we see now are products of earlier evolution. It would be denying myself, but, what can I do? I can't be an atheist. I believe in God.

"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind."
-Albert Einstein

I do not know how truthful this quote is by Einstein, but I personally believe in that saying. They go on together. They merge together. They shape our tomorrow. While both of them have mysteries yet to be unraveled in the future, I am sure that everything will be perfect.

And ohh, atheists and scientists would be asking to me the question I'm asking to some people who do superstitious beliefs, I would say this line from the Bible:

Jesus said to him,"Because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen, and have believed."
- John 20:29

(I don't really know where to stand, do I?)

On Denials and Hypocrisies

I try to be the very best that I am, but most of the time, I fail, and I can't really do what I expect myself to be doing, or what I say that must be done.

On Denials and Hypocrisies...

I always try to be one hell of a perfect guy. I try as much as I could to please everyone, even to the point of losing myself. I always check on others' mistake, thinking that they're wrong and I'm right. I always ridicule others' weakness. I wanted to be the best but it's making me worse. I don't know where to place.

For instance, as a pretentious good guy, I always criticize people who are very much conceited, and full of themselves, never realizing that I am also a proud guy who always think that I am the greatest among others. But wait, I am not conceited, nor very full of myself, nor selfish. I know my limits, but, there are still some things I do not know about myself. This made me think that I'm proud sometimes. I often insult others, too, and think they're crazy as I am criticizing others for doing the same.

Yet, most of the time, I always deny that I do those saying to myself, "Hey! She must already be used to my insult. She must not get mad at me already." Only to think that my insults are getting worse.

Another instance would be when I would try to be selfish with the facts I know. Though I find it unfair to share the knowledge I know but get uncredited, I often do critisize people who are not sharing what they know to others, especially to me. Hypocrite? Yes. I believe so.

But there are some instance when my criticisms are right. For example, one person I know always have this favorite student. This teacher always checks on this student, on whatever he is doing. As an Education student, this is not a sign of good teaching. A teacher, no matter how he favors a student, must not show it to the class because there are other students listening. I'm not insecure. It's a teacher's basic rule.

I blame myself for being too attached to the external environment that I almost forget to look at myself in the mirror. The moment that my classmate told me that I've changed, I looked inside myself and found out many wrong things that I've been doing for the past weeks which I overlooked because I was too busy being a hypocrite. I was too busy denying the fact that I probably changed already.

Though that was not the reason why my classmate said that to me (it was a reason so confidential it needs not to be said online, but it's utterly seen in my last blog post.), it readily made me examine myself. I do not know if I would soon change, but if I can, I hope I will.

Lily Aldrin said this on the 21st episode of the first season of the show, "How I Met Your Mother," entitled Milk,

"There are certain things in life where you know it's a mistake but you don't really know it's a mistake because the only way to really know it's a mistake is to make the mistake and look back and say, 'Yehp, that was a mistake.' So really, the bigger mistake would be not to make the mistake because then you go your life not really knowing if something is a mistake or not."

(Yeah, I really repeated this scene several times just to get this line perfectly.)

I never knew I did this mistake but now I know it's a mistake, it's high time for me make up for that mistake. Thanks for the advice Lily, and thanks to the person who said that to me.

The Fourth Installment

Isn't it cool that I've finished the fourth season in less than a week? Hahaha. I mean it. I've finished the fourth season of How I Met Your Mother yesterday. There were many unsuspected twists and turns and obviously unobvious baby bumps covered by jackets or bags, or even tables.

So here it goes.

Season 4. 2008-2009. Great Year.

My movie craving did not stop with two movies. As what I have said in my earlier post, I watched six movies for the past days.

This post would be my reviews on: Pokemon the First Movie and Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides.

Forever a-Quote

I have a plan to create another blog. It's not another personal blog like this one where I will be writing anything under the sun. I will be posting some quotes I have collected. Actually, I am a quote collector albeit I am not that avid one who has thousands. To date, I have about 150 quotes, which I got from reading books, watching movies, listening to lectures, reading stories, etc. I have been into this business for about three years already. I know, I am a slow one. It's hard collecting quotes, you know. You need sharp hearing skills or that precious quotation will be lost forever. Haha. Good thing books are printed, so I could always peek at them when I rewrite them.

I actually have a notebook with all the quotes that I have collected. I think I have occupied a small number of pages. Hey, 150 quotes will not reach 50 pages of a notebook. Haha. But seriously, I do have.

I plan to make that blog by next year, since I'm a little busy this year with all those Christmas parties and extravaganzas going on. Well, for a start, here's one I got from the series, How I met Your Mother which I just watched a while ago:

"so that's the upside of hurt. sometimes they happen for a reason." Ted Mosby (How I met Your Mother)

I really did watch that show a while ago. I'm not a worthless cheater who would just get quotes from quote books or from the internet. I'm only cheating myself. And who knows? I may have a thousand of quotes in due time. Haha.
