More than Christmas Programs

So I just came from two Christmas Programs today. One was the our departmental Christmas Program and the other one was the FamJam. So, okay, like any other Christmas Programs and Parties, we would all have the chance to enjoy, to play, to be happy, to exchange gifts, and dress like freaks. Of course, as a requirement for the signing of clearance, I had to attend both of them. To enjoy these, we had to pay more than Php300 for the consumption of both.

The Christmas Party of our Department was rather boring and distorted at first. Everyone was having their own parties and own worlds. No one was participating at all. When our lunch came, alas! We became little children having our own children's party. Why? First, because our food was hotdog on stick with marshmallows, very sweet spaghetti, and a little piece of fried chicken. It was delicious, but not the appropriate food for us young adults. Second, some were very careless like little children who would just spill their softdrinks on the floor which leaves me mopping them. Oh please, why wouldn't they grow up? However, the good part was when we got the chance toe sing on the videoke. It was fun listening others sing. It was entertaining for them to be jumping and dancing. I sang once, "You're Still the One." For no reason, I picked that one, and unfortunately, it was very hard yet I managed to sing it.. Haha.

Later this afternoon, we again had another Christmas party, it's called Family Christmas Fun Night or simply called, FamJam. It's supposedly a night wherein all families of the College Department bonds together as if it's a family day. But, No. It never really materialized. It's as if no one really enjoyed the party, in my opinion, though. I overestimated the party itself, because I thought that when we pay, we'll enjoy more. I did not enjoy the party at all. Another thing is that, the theme of the night was retro. Almost no one was wearing retro, the place was not retro, the music was not retro. I mean, why was it even called retro?

Aren't Christmas parties supposed to be happy?!

And so a bright thought entered into my mind. With all those payments, we could have just cancelled them, and donated those money to the typhoon Sendong victims. I mean, here we are, celebrating for the presence of Christmas trees and Christmas lights, and they are there, wailing for food and clean water. It's so alarming to know that after a few days, there are already more than 900 deaths (957 or 927? I don't know the real number.)! I still can't believe it. My heart swelled when I first heard the news. With all the pictures circulating around the net, I can't simply look at them. They needed help. Why can't we give them? They said, give love on Christmas day. Isn't donating money to be used in buying things considered love? They need help, why can't we give them?

When I watch news, it's not the Christmas parties that go first, nor the case of Chief Justice Corona, or that Congresswoman, or the former COMELEC commissioner, or about the birth of Christ. It's about the typhoon victims. I can hardly breath watching a woman crying out loud, searching for her mother. I can't even look at the woman who became insane after realizing that her mother is dead already. I can't even aldjfahldjfhldfjahl!

Concluding this thing, Christmas parties must be fun, but when there are more important persons to attend to, we can't just simply be having fun here. We need to help people. That's the essence of Christmas, right? We can't simply laugh and have fun here while others are crying for the loss of their family. We need to prioritize them and not these Christmas parties, right PNoy?
