Bookworm Adventures

I am not a good writer. I am a terrible one. My thoughts put into words don’t even make sense at all. I am superficial and shallow, narrow-minded and trivial. Yeah, I searched the synonyms of these words to make them DEEP. Hahaha. I have to confess, I am poor in vocabulary. If you have read my whole blog, you would have only read the word, “albeit,” once [that makes it two]. I keep forgetting the meaning of that term albeit [that makes it three] I’ve been hearing that that from highfaluting people. Funny ‘cause what stays in my mind is, “I’ll bet,” so yeah.

What makes me a terrible writer is that I don’t read. They say that good writers read. Hell yeah, I’m 18 and I’ve only read six novels – Blue Shoes, The Other Boleyn Girl, The Constant Princess, Oliver Twist (short cut version), The NoteBook (via e-book which is legit) and that book about words which title I forgot. I remember borrowing books way back grade school and I would let my brother read it. Yeah. I also had the guts to buy Charles Dickens’ classic Oliver Twist, but never dared reading it. I tried reading Harry Potter but I kept thinking that there are seven books to read. I would rather watch the movies instead. When I had the courage to read my brother's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone years ago, I was immediately turned off. Why? The book was already a feast for the rats. With missing pages and torn pages, who can have the patience to read that? Haha. Since then, I only knew the story of Harry and the gang via the movies.

Outside the novel world, I have read quite a small number of books. From Bob Ong’s ABNKKBSNPLAko, Stainless Longganisa, and Alamat ng Gubat, to those short story books like Hansel and Gretel, Aesop’s Fables, and Jack and the Beanstalk. I have also read books like – Pokémon Fever (a guide to becoming a Pokémon Master), school books which we are required to read, the Bible of course, which is very essential to a Christian like me [though I’ve never read the whole of it. Who have read the whole of it?], and some magazines and stuff.

I would prefer books with pictures and illustrations, though. Because in that way, I am attracted to them and read -- a short line from the main story and would get the main idea from the picture or its cut line. I easily gets bored staring at a page full of letters. I get dizzy and I would instantly close it.

I remember those books when I was in grade school. Those abridged classics – short cut novels in such a way that young people could read them. The set-up is like this. On the left page, if I remember it right, is the story on Times New Roman font, while on the right page is the illustration. Classics like Oliver Twist, Wizards of Oz, and the Three Musketeers had these abridged versions. That Oliver Twist is what I read because it was a school requirement. The abridged book which I borrowed for my brother is the classic, 20,000 Leagues under the Sea. I do not know who wrote it, nor the plot.

BTW, what I read nowadays are blogs of some people. In fact, because of reading two blogs, I came up with this blog of mine. Yeah. I also read my brother’s blog. His blog is more intellectual than mine though I made mine first (I think).

So anyways, I ended up talking about books. Okay, I was about to talk about my writing style but I ended up writing about books. Haha.
